Decision making and Planning

I have decided that I am going to make Baked Rice. The recipe of Baked Rice is as follows:

Ingredients List
100ml of cream of mushroom
1/4 red pepper
1/4 green pepper
1/2 large onion- chopped
1/2 tomato- chopped
1 tsp oil
1 cup rice
1 1/2 cup water
60g shredded Parmesan cheese

Methods

1.Pre-heat the oven to 180 C.
2. Wash the rice twice. Add rive and water to the rice cooker. Boil until rice is cooked. Fluff the rice and allow rice to cool.
3. Heat oil in frying pan. Fry chopped onion until fragrant.
4. Add the red and green pepper and the tomato. Cook for about 2 minutes. Add cream of mushroom and rice. Mix well.
5. Dish the rice into the casserole dish.
6. Top the rice with cheese. Bake for about 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts and turns lightly brown.

I decided to do Baked Rice for my task because
1) The dish is healthy. It contains rice (which has carbohydrates), vegetables (which has vitamins) and cheese (which has protein). It is also simple to make, and I did it quite well during class, so I thick that the chances of me cooking this dish correctly during the task is higher.

However, I modified the recipe. I took out the mushrooms because I did not like them, and the reduced the amount of cheese added to make the dish healthier.

Evaluation

So, Home Econs task is over :) I had so much fun during the module. I am really disappointed that it has come to an end.

So it was The Day and I had everything prepared. I was doing the second shift. I quickly handed over my camera to Swathi, who I am so grateful for taking the wonderful pictures seen in this blog :)

Me chopping vegetables!
We had one hour to to the dish and wash up and I quickly started chopping the vegetables the minute Mrs Willamme let us start.
Veggies done :)
After that, I put some oil into the frying pan and put the onions in. After the onions turned brown, I added the other vegetables.

After that, I added the cream of mushroom and the rice (which I had already cooked).
Then, stuffed the rice into aluminium containers and sprinkled the cheese on top of the rice. After that, I placed the containers into the oven, which was preheated to 180 C for 15 minutes.

I then took the containers out. The rice was baked and it smelled so nice! I then decorated the rice with a design made of ketchup and served it :)
Menu: Delicious baked rice :)

In conclusion, I think the did the task pretty well. I did all the steps correctly and the end product was quite tasty. I could have done the presentation of the dish better though. Presenting the dish on a plate seems quite simple.

I am really grateful that we had this course, because I learned a lot. I learned how to prepare ingredients, the different methods of preparing a dish, how to tweak a dish to make it healthier, how to make simple dishes, which foods are healthy and which are not, why we should eat healthy food as well as how little tweaks to the dish would make it healthier.

Research and Development

First of all, the dish has to healthy. I identified that for a dish to be healthy, it has to meet the healthy diet pyramid's requirements. There should be 5-7 servings of rice or alternatives, as well as 2-4 servings of fruits, as well as 3 servings of meat or alternatives for each of us. Next, the dish has to completed within 1 hour. This means that the dish should not have more than 10 steps. The dish should also be vegetarian as I am one.

One possible dish I could do is Baked Rice. Baked rice has rice, vegetables as well as cheese in it, so it fulfils the healthy diet requirement. Adding less cheese and more vegetables would also make the dish healthy.

Task Analysis

So, I am going to do a task analysis now.

The task that we have to do is to make a simple nutritious dish for myself and my younger sister. It has to be healthy and nutritious, which means that the RDA for our ages, as well as our BMI has to be taken into consideration. I also have remember about the Healthy Diet Pyramid, so I have to ensure that there is enough rice, vegetables, meat or alternatives. I also cannot make a dish with too many steps or a dish which is too complicated as I only have one hour to finish cooking, as well as wash up. I also cannot make dishes which require expensive ingredients, as I am only given $10 to buy the ingredients for the dish. The priority for the task is cooking a nutritious dish properly as well as in time.
